This dessert is delicious and healthy all year around. It is cool and jelly to clean your palette after the meal. It is sweet and sour.
Slightly sour tasting foods can help the liver relax and improve its energy and blood circulation. Sour tastes also help generate fluids, keeping hydration levels up for the summer.
You can enjoy it with almonds or other nuts and seeds for delicious protein addition.
- 1 organic granny smith apple
- 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
- zest of 1 lemon
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 3 cups water
- 3 cups organic apple juice
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 7 Tbsp agar-agar
Cut apple to pieces. Combine water, apple juice and sea salt in a cooking pot. When it gets hot add agar-agar and stir until it is dissolved. Add a cinnamon stick, apple pieces and cranberries. Cook on a reduced heat for 8 minutes. Add lemon zest and vanilla extract. Remove from the heat after 2 minutes. Let it cool off and pour into one or individual glass bowls. Let it sit in the refrigerator for 1 hour (until it is completely jellied). Serve it as is or with your favorite nuts.
Health Tip ** Fresh lemon juice added to a glass of water in the morning is a great liver detoxifier.
